About ClimbIndex
ClimbIndex is a fast, modern home for UK climbing: a complete indoor wall directory, an honest crag-conditions engine, and the everyday tools climbers actually use โ free, with no ads.
What we're building
- Every UK wall, one directory. Bouldering gyms, rope centres, prices, facilities โ the listing Google Maps can't give you.
- "Is it dry?" โ live conditions verdicts that combine recent rainfall, drying weather, rock type and aspect, so you know before you drive.
- Your logbook, portable. Import your own data from other platforms in seconds. It's your history; you should be able to take it anywhere.
What this isn't (yet)
We're not trying to replace 25 years of route documentation overnight. Our outdoor crag coverage starts small and grows through the community โ seeded from open sources (OpenStreetMap, OpenBeta and open club guides, with attribution) and corrected by climbers who know the crags. If you spot an error, tell us.
Who checks this
Indoor wall listings get a sense-check from Kirsten, an assistant manager at a UK climbing centre with over a decade on the front desk โ someone who actually knows what a day pass costs and what "beginner-friendly" really means. Full bio coming soon.
Run a climbing wall?
Listings are free, and always will be. Claim your wall to keep prices, hours and facilities up to date, and list your events and competitions. Email hello@climbindex.co.uk.
Principles
- Free and ad-free while we grow. No banner farm.
- Your data is yours. Export everything, any time. Deleting your data means deleting it.
- Safety and access first. We link the BMC's access database, flag bird bans where we know of them, and will always tell you not to climb wet sandstone.
- Advisory, not gospel. Conditions are model estimates; grades are opinions; check everything yourself.
